The Blake 2019
Thank you for all of those who joined us at the first annual The Blake event on October 12th and 13th, 2019, and to all those that donated and made our inaugural event a great success!
This annual event honors Blake King & Family and their efforts to raise awareness for Pediatric Leukemia and to support the on going research and lifesaving services at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where Blake is being treated. Like Blake, this event was filled with lots of fun, games and plenty of shenanigans!
The 2 Day Event Included a Welcome Party Kick-Off with the best Paella in-town supplied by The Paella Project.
The Family and Friends Charity Golfing event on Sunday, held at The Westdrift Manhattan Beach 9-Hole, Par 3 Golf Course was jam packed with fun for all ages. There was not a dry-eye in the house when Patton King sang the National Anthem to kick-off the afternoon event. Blake made a big splash in the dunk tank. There was never a dull moment at the Kids Zone with crafts and games for all to enjoy. Our sponsors truly out did themselves and made the interactive golfing challenges and activities exciting and fun! Our silent auction was a big hit and we couldn’t be more grateful for all those that contributed and helped make this inaugural event happen.
The outpouring of love and support for Blake and The King Family was truly magical. Through the event and additional donations we were able to collectively donate $50,000 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The funds raised were donated to help support Blake’s oncologist, Dr. Bhojwani’s blood cancer research department.
$25,000 helped to fund Dr. Bhojwani’s Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia neurotoxicity project in collaboration with Dr. Peterson at the institute for Developing Mind.
$25,000 helped to fund the Leukemia Research Fund. These funds will be used for studying resistance mechanisms in ALL.
It was incredibly heartwarming to watch Blake present the check for $50,000 to Dr.Bhojwani. He was so excited to give back to the hospital that is helping save his life.
Dr. Deepa Bhojwani and her team at CHLA are developing paths of treatment which will someday shorten the need for three plus years of chemotherapy for these young children. They treat so many patients through one of the most difficult battles of their lives. These patients truly look up to their doctors as are real life heroes. You could see the joy and pride Blake had in his eyes, when he hand the check and gave Dr. Bhojwani a big hug!
